National Party Congress of the CPC

The National Party Congress (NPC) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is held every five years in Beijing. Theoretically, it is meant to be the most powerful body with the CPC and the People’s Republic of China. However, the NPC now serves a largely symbolic role, with most power lying in the hands of a few well-placed politicians. While the meeting has been hailed by Chinese media as a chance for the people to be heard, the reality is that most of the results have been decided before the event.
